Why the Trayvon Martin Case is Not Unique

Twenty-eight Black People (27 Men and 1 Female) Killed by Police Officials, Security
Guards, and Self-Appointed “Keepers of the Peace” between January 1, 2012 and March 31, 2012

- Of the 28 killed people, 18 were definitely unarmed. 2 probably had firearms, 8
were alleged to have non-lethal weapons.

- Of the 28 killed people,

. 11 were innocent of any illegal behavior or behavior that involved a
threat to anyone (although the shooters claimed they looked “suspicious”);

. 7 were emotionally disturbed and/or displaying strange behavior.

. The remaining 10 were either engaged in illegal or potentially illegal
activity, or there was too little info to determine circumstances of their
killing. It appears that in all but two of these cases, illegal and/or harmful
behavior could have been stopped without the use of lethal force.

“Being a leftist is a calling, not a career; it’s a vocation, not a profession. It means you are concerned about structural violence, you are concerned about exploitation at the work place, you are concerned about institutionalized contempt against gay brothers and lesbian sisters, hatred against peoples of color, and the subordination of women. It means that you are willing to fight against, and to try to understand the sources of social misery at the structural and institutional levels, as well as at the existential and personal levels. That’s what it means to be a leftist; that’s why we choose to be certain kinds of human beings.”

R.I.P Rekia Boyd - Innocent Chicago Woman Shot & Killed By Off-Duty Detective

Another case that will leave you shaking with anger.

This happened earlier this week (Mar 22). The police are justifying Rekia Boyd’s murder by saying that this man was going to shoot the off-duty police officer otherwise. No weapon was recovered.

This is heartbreaking. You can read the article here.

The off-duty detective rolled down his car window and asked a group of people gathered near Douglas Park to quiet down. In response, police say, a 39-year-old man pointed a gun at the officer, who drew his own weapon and fired. The bullets hit the alleged gunman in the hand and Rekia Boyd in the head as she stood nearby.

But no gun was found.

Martinez Sutton, the brother of 22-year-old Rekia Boyd said

They said the shooting is justified, but how is it justified when you got a young girl up there with a bullet hole in her head? What kind of justice is that?

First you got Trayvon, now you got Rekia. Senseless, senseless violence. It didn’t have to happen.

There were 60-70 people in the park and no one had a gun. Everyone was just out there to hang out, that’s it,” said witness Leo Coleman on Wednesday. Coleman is the alleged gunman’s cousin.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting.

Word of the day: Sedition

“In lawsedition is overt conduct, such as speech and organization, that is deemed by the legal authority to tend toward insurrection against the established order.”

I pasted that definition from the sedition page on wikipedia. Got such a nice ring to it, right? Sedition. Sedition - wild freedom; a raucous observation of the inalienable right to scream ‘FUCK YOU’ at whosoeverthefuck draws the maze you are forced to wander through on a daily basis, endlessly bumping into the same invisible walls, all the while asking yourself: sweet beautiful human being that you are, why do you allow for this insanity to continue? why do you measure your social subversion by the apparent failure of most folks around you - who are, perhaps, assuaging their own misgivings by the same faulty metrics - to do even the littlest bit to shake the foundations of this mad society?

That’s right, Sedition - the word you can hold onto for keeps when you take the first step into that dark open place, where the rules are a conversation amongst free animals guided by the wisdom of the ever free planet that somehow continues to sustain us.

Sedition - heaven on earth, even as it manifests in great difficulty, pain, death; heaven because we all were born knowing that to be free and to fight for that same freedom for the beautiful people, the wonderful world around you, that is heaven, and you will never truly be content to lie down, fetch, play dead the way your masters train you. Some harp on the domestication of animals, and what a cruel thing it was for early human to breed animal slaves. I wont take a stance on the issue, but I will bring up an interesting bit of oft neglected information - not all animals can be domesticated. I once heard a remarkable bit of information concerning the domestication of dogs. It may well be that dogs were not domesticated by force, but rather that wolves learned thousands, maybe tens of thousands of years ago, that hanging around these crafty human critters was really good for their survival. Wolves were drawn to the warmth of the fires and the plentiful food. It appears that other now-domestic animals felt a similar advantage connected to human contact - see the horse vs. zebra debate.

Anyways, I’m diverting myself from the main topic of this post - human beings. Sedition is impossible without a human social structure. Sedition was utterly unheard of, undefined, and thus practically nonexistent, before the development of large hierarchical (read: patriarchal) human societies. And large human societies couldn’t come into being without some form of domestication, could they? Would a society of ungovernable people ever be practicable? Methinks not. But a society of people who largely consider their involvement with the society to be an advantage over the alternative makes perfect sense. Thus, early humanity begins to domesticate itself.

OK! But what the fuck about today? What if there is no fucking alternative? What if you are born into a global web of capitalist hoonanny?! Well, what does man do about an animal that refuses to submit to its domestication. Man kills the beast.

Sedition - laughing in the face of the smoking barrel that felled a long line of free human beings before you; dancing unashamed before the puritan hand that would banish you; loving without reserve before your own conditioned insecurities that would tear you apart from within if you weren’t so damn stubborn and indomitable.

Sedition - something you should get up with, my beautiful, wonderful, perfect human fellow.

You can read this if you want to.

Haven’t posted in a million years. Been avoiding technology. Been running in the woods and barely having money and being music and making happy and ohmygoodnessthisscan’tbereal loving fucking everything and then rollercoastering into that holyshitthisreallyisn’trealmaybe dark spot that is just another part of the mind, kinda the way the first part is part of the mind, a part I like more and want to spend more time with.

My life over the past month: realized that the city I’m in is in fact my home and I don’t really want to leave for anything less than a damn good reason - maybe realized what it actually means to separate love and possessiveness, though it was a lesson hard learned, also maybe the most important lesson I’ve learned this year - danced my fucking ass off every weekend, and I mean really letting go and finding new ways to move my body - got a gun shoved in my face - loving my job and my friends and my family and my everything and feeling really like a natural human being, like I am shedding the anxiety and self-consciousness and bullllllshit and actually being the person I was born to be. Goddamn. I am so fucking blessed it is out of control!

And you’re great. You are fucking great, you’re beautiful, you are doing fine, I promise. The world is a prism. Each angle one takes on it produces a different image. From one perspective, it’s all going to shit, our governments have lost control of their human foundation and are driving the planet into an inescapable disaster. From another perspective, people all over the world are standing up against Government Incorporated and making it very clear that their voices will be heard. And from yet another perspective, good people in all manner of communities are finding new ways to relate to one another outside of the dynamics of our dominant cultural system.

I could go on, but I encourage you to do that work. Think about how every broad description of the state of the world is but a single pinpoint perspective on a massively complex web of interactions. One can never know how far reaching the consequences of any single action are. So live a good life, I say. And if something bugs you, like how you have to drive your car where you live, or how you find it difficult to eat food grown in your region, then do something about it. If you need any help or ideas or anything, send me a message. I’d be happy to offer whatever resources I can, and I can tell you, you will feel fucking great about actually making something happen. You can influence your community to developing more comprehensive public transportation and you can get your neighbors to use it! And who knows what ideas you all might come up with while riding the bus together. And you can develop urban farming systems or yard garden education programs that bring food production to your street! You can do that! How fucking cool is that?

And don’t let me stifle any brilliant ideas you may be harboring. You can do any fucking thing you want to. This is your life. You have every right to take control of your life, and to influence your environment to make things more positive for yourself and those around you.

Keep it up, yall. You’re doing great.

This is probably the most important post I EVER MADE.

The Senate recently passed the National Defense Authorization Act, a law that will give the military the power to arrest citizens (for life) without trial if they are deemed suspicious or ‘anti-government’ and interrogate, torture and assassinate them!

This bill is the biggest threat to our civil liberties and freedom and now we have learned that the Obama administrative ORDERED THE BILL.

The National Defense Authorization Act violates our 1st, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th amendments in the Bill of Rights. How can this bill allowed to have been passed by a 97-3 vote in the Senate and not have raised a red flag in the media?!

Don’t be blinded by our President’s promises and our media censorship. THIS IS HAPPENING AND WE ARE CLOSE TO LOOSING EVERYTHING AMERICANS STAND FOR. We will soon be the generation that let the government become dictators and we were too side tracked with celebrity news to realize how bad things are. PLEASE REBLOG, THIS IS URGENT AND OUR RIGHTS ARE AT RISK. REFORM IS NOT ENOUGH, WE NEED A REVOLUTION.

It’s just unbelievable that the Mayor told the media it was a peaceful dispersion. Did she really think she could cover this up? Cover up the raid, and then cover up Scott Olsen and the others like him?
